Deliquescence of Eutectic LiCl-KCl Diluted with NaCl for Interim Waste Salt Storage

چکیده
Molten eutectic LiCl-KCl salt is a widely used electrolyte for electrorefining uranium from spent nuclear fuel. Due to the hygroscopic nature of this salt, such operations must be performed under controlled atmospheric conditions, and waste salts require careful storage avoid deliquescence corrosion container materials. This study investigated potential processing path reducing degree through dilution varying extents with NaCl. The hydration behavior diluted NaCl was evaluated in terms mass gain due water absorption, (including first appearances standing water), evidence stainless steel containers humid air environment (40°C, 20% relative humidity). In environment, pure exhibited 50 % increase absorption showed after 24 h. Waste required loadings 89 order prevent 3 absorption. After periodic observation 48 h, observed near all ingots exception samples. Dilution 89% also found reduce when stored crucibles. While greatly decreases steady-state hydration, volume increased ~10× procedure.

متن کاملLow temperature synthesis of CaZrO3 nanoceramics from CaCl2–NaCl molten eutectic salt
CaZrO3 nanoceramics were successfully synthesized at 700 C using the molten salt method, and the effects of processing parameters, such as temperature, holding time, and amount of salt on the crystallization of CaZrO3 were investigated. CaCl2, Na2CO3, and nano-ZrO2 were used as starting materials. On heating, CaCl2–NaCl molten eutectic salt provided a liquid medium for the reaction of CaCO3 an...

متن کاملTemperature invariance of NaCl solubility in water: inferences from salt-water cluster behavior of NaCl, KCl, and NH4Cl.
The growth and stability of salt-water clusters have been experimentally studied in aqueous solutions of NaCl, KCl, and NH(4)Cl from dilute to near-saturation conditions employing dynamic light scattering and zeta potential measurements. In order to examine cluster stability, the changes in the cluster sizes were monitored as a function of temperature. Compared to the other cases, the average s...
